Marching in New York to Protect Children

On May 5 the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) marched in New York City protesting the American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) continuing attempts to widen its market by encouraging the administration of more psychotropic drugs to children, and to submit those who are deemed “unresponsive” to electroshock.

The march coincided with the APA’s annual convention in New York.

According to CCHR figures, 8 million children are currently taking prescribed psychiatric drugs in the U.S., nearly 800,000 of them younger than 5 years old. These drugs carry more than 409 international drug regulatory warnings, according to CCHR.

“Children are being drugged and shocked for behavior that in years past was considered normal childhood behavior,” said CCHR Florida President Diane Stein. “The labeling of our nation’s children is a human rights abuse.”
